High School Girls Volunteering - Fall 2014
In the midst of all the snow, the South Windsor Soccer Club would like to take a moment and thank a very special group of volunteers that dedicated their time on the field this past season, the South Windsor High School girls’ varsity soccer team.

The high school girls spent time volunteering their skills with the U11 girl’s recreational team, an annual tradition where they help their younger protege's develop the confidence of these young ladies both on and off the field. The high school aged players are some of the best candidates around to develop curriculum for the 9 and 10 year old recreational players as many of these girls were former players of the club not that long ago.

Skill sets taught by the high school players during practice are demonstrated with pride during the recreational games held at Rye Street Park on Saturday mornings. In fact, if you look closely enough at the sidelines during those games, you’ll see a supportive varsity team sitting alongside a sea of parents that day. In reverse, the young apprentice players can also be found at the high school games cheering on their favorite player/mentor hoping to walk in their footsteps one day.
“It was amazing to witness the transformation of the teams” commented Scott Shepardson, resident of South Windsor and girls volunteer coach with the soccer club. Scott is credited with initiating the relationship between the two organizations about two years ago and should be proud as we have received an abundance of compliments about the partnership from both parents and players.

South Windsor Soccer Club encourages programs such as these as it builds an important bond between the youth groups of various ages here in town. If you have an idea or would like more information about the South Windsor Soccer Club we would love to hear from you. Outstanding Volunteer Award Presented to Amy & Matthew Brown

South Windsor Soccer Club is pleased to announce Amy and Matthew Brown as the recipients of the organization's Outstanding Volunteer Award. Both Amy and Matt have invested an incredible number of hours for the youth athletes of our community and the club was honored to present this award to them at the U-11 Recreational Tournament on October 18, 2014.

Over the last several years, the Board of Directors have received numerous emails praising the efforts of the Browns both on and off the field. These emails range from Matt's coaching ability to summon incredible enthusiasm from his players on the field to Amy's organizational skillset in coordinating multiple recreation divisions and the semi-annual U-11 recreational tournament. If you're wondering why the South Windsor Soccer Club is so successful, it's the hundreds of volunteers just like the Browns that create such a positive environment for our youth athletes. Thank you for all that you do.
